Nazis on War, Policy and
Public Opinion Apr 12, 2003 The Republican Challenge in Goering's Words by Ed Armas "It is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." --Reichsmarschall Hermann Goering April 13, 2003 by Trevor Batten Re: Republican Challenge - Ed's post Yes, Goering's theories of propaganda based leadership do seem to have become popular -it wasn't only rocket scientists who got put to work by the allies after the war. Modern academic theories regarding Consumerism, Media and Virtual realities seem specifically designed to create a climate of acceptance for the mental slavery of whole societies in support of the economic "farming" of humans. Media Theory: http://www.alltheweb.com/search?cat=web&cs=iso-8859-1&q=%22Media+Theory%22&_sb_\ lang=nl+en Cyber Theory: http://www.alltheweb.com/search?cat=web&cs=iso-8859-1&q=%22Cyber+Theory%22&_sb_\ lang=nl+en Virtual Reality: http://www.alltheweb.com/search?cat=web&cs=iso-8859-1&q=%22Virtual+Reality%22&_\ sb_lang=nl+en (It may be interesting to (critically) compare attitudes from the sixties and seventies from the previous century with current attitudes. It seems to me that many early commentators were opposed to the development of attitudes which now seem to be generally accepted as being universally true and valid. In some cases (Baudrillard) opponents of current attitudes have been elevated to the position of icons -supposedly supporting the very attitudes which they actually opposed) In fact, I suppose one could claim that with modern society's belief/trust/interest in physical health and beauty, genetic manipulation, ethnic roots and ethnic cleansing, blitzkrieg, global supremacy and individual freedom without social responsibility -that perhaps the nazi party seem to have lost the war but their ideas do seem to have won more popular support than perhaps we would like to admit. Apparently, in both England and America the Nazis were not without support within the social-political elite. In pre-WWII America, many people believed that fighting communism was more important than fighting fascism. After the war, it was this attitude that lead America to support unpleasant dictators around the whole world (including the middle east -which it is now complaining about) as long as their protégés opposed communism. One can be seriously concerned about how American attitudes have created the modern world which upsets them so much (or at least, in their eyes, provides justification for undermining international law and order so they can impose their own cowboy brand of anarchy and "jungle law"). Perhaps, after the death of Stalin, communism would not have needed to be so aggressive if it had not needed to continually defend itself against American attack. Perhaps eastern Europe would now be a better place if America had been more concerned with helping social recovery than stimulating economic exploitation. The current situation of anarchy and looting in Iraq seems to suggest that (modern) history is repeating itself -and that in Iraq the same conditions are now being created there as has proved so problematic in post-communist Europe. One wonders if this is through ignorance -or a determined attempt to cause trouble -in order to profit from the chaos afterwards. One cannot help thinking that American government actions are focussed on killing people such as bin Laden and Saddam Hussein -because they know that if brought to justice they are likely to bring American complicity into the public debate via the legal process. |
