Bush Administration Speeches
since start of War Iraqi Oil is good but infrastructure not (by Sophia Barkat) Iraq is burning Oil: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&cid=540&e=2&u=/ap/20030320/ ap_=on_re_mi_ea/war_iraq_fire "Needless to say, it is a crime for that regime to be destroying the riches of the Iraqi people," Rumsfeld said in Washington. "A loss of oil from Iraq - home to the world's second-largest reserves - could crimp supplies for importing countries, and deny U.S. and British governments an asset they hope will help pay for postwar efforts, " the article says. 12:45 p.m., March 20th, 2003 (by Sophia Barkat) Ari Fleischer's Speech Ari Fleischer on news conference right now says "US is enforcing UN Resolutions on Iraq"....Oh.. the great enforcer of International Law... Re: Ari Fleisher statement (by Trevor) Yes, I wonder how Mr. Fleischer would react if Iraq started enforcing UN Resolutions on Israel! Not Going Dutch - Tommy Franks' speech by Trevor Batten As if the disagreements over the war between the two potential coalition parties now negotiating to form the next Dutch government were not bad enough -they have now been made worse by Tommy Franks. Apparently, in his first press conference Tommy Franks had Dutch Lieutenant Colonel Jan Blom with him. This has embarrassed the current Dutch government because they have only offered political annd not military support. Apparently, the Americans had asked the Dutch for permission for Blom to be present - however, Dutch government officials now cclaim that they misunderstood the nature of the meeting. Above all, the incident presumably demonstrates how politically sensitive relations with the Americans are at present. In the meantime, it seems that Iraqi resistance may be more than was expected although it appears not to be slowing down the advance too much - which simply bypasses resistance when ppossible. However, levels of propaganda and misinformation seem to be high -one moment one hears of 8,000 soldiers surrendering and another moment one hears of somewhere between 1,000 and 2,000. Some reports say that Turkish troops have moved into Iraq and other reports deny this. Bits of news mentioned on one channel seem to be repeated many hours later on another channel as if they had just happened. Euro-news showed scenes of anti-war demonstrators marching in various cities around the world -and being attacked by police in Norway. On BBC world service radio, an academic has just claimed that anti-war demonstrations probably do encourage the military to be careful with causing civilian casualties. Such demonstrations are supposedly particularly difficult for Blair and Bush -because if Blair had to pull out then Bush would have difficulties talking about a coalition of forces. I guess, one will just have to wait until it is all finished and then read the book (on the internet?). Mar 23, 2003 Bush thanks Iraq for not using weapons of Mass Destruction by Sophia Barkat Today, Bush thanked the enemy for not using weapons of mass destruction. Very good liars politicians make. If I was going to die in Iraq, would I not use weapons of mass destruction on the attackers if I had any? Rumsfeld Rumbled by Trevor Batten The Dutch TV programme "Network" featured today Rumsfeld's visit to Iraq in 1983 to establish diplomatic relations and support for the war against Iran after Iraq had broken relations with the US during the 1967 six day war with Israel. http://www.alltheweb.com/search?cat=web&cs=iso-8859-1&q= Rumsfeld+%2B+Iraq+%2B19\83&_sb_lang=nl+en They also covered how the White House manipulates the media -including the fraudulent story of Iraqi soldiers throwing Kuwaiti babies out of incubators during the occupation of Kuwait. http://www.fair.org/activism/hbo-gulf-hoax.html http://www.democraticunderground.com/articles/03/02/12_lying.html (the link to "Lying Us Into War: Exposing Bush and His "Techniques of Deceit", by Dennis Hans" came via the democratic underground site and not via the search engine) Or for a more recent analysis of the president's technique: http://www.democraticunderground.com/articles/03/02/12_lying.html Both from: http://www.alltheweb.com/search?cat=web&cs=iso-8859-1&q= %22Babies%22+%2B+Kuwait\+%2B+Hoax&_sb_lang=nl+en A spokesman for al Jazeera also claimed that their financial correspondent was asked to leave Wall Street the day after they sent out images of carnage in Iraq. by Sophia Barkat Rumsfeld Rumbled - so what's new in Washington? Apparently, that's how business is done in Washington DC. I was reading Noam Chomsky's ROGUE STATE. On page 3, Chomsky says regarding US policy towards thugs/despot states who commit atrocities on civilians: "The pattern is familiar: another grand killer, Saddam Hussain, was also supported through his worst atrocities, changing status only when disobeyed (or misunderstood) orders. There is a long series of similar illustrations: Trujillo, Mobutu, Marcos, Duvalier, Noreiga, and many other. CRIMES ARE NOT OF GREAT CONSEQUENCE; DISOBEDIENCE IS." I love Chomsky. He gets his information from actual books, government documents and also people all over the world. There is a long list of references in each book, so that you can drag out actual quotes from famous people. Powell's Fan Club says resign by Sophia Barkat Some fans of Powell thinks he should resign to voice his objection to the current war. Here's the link: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&cid=1521&e=23&u=/afp/ 20030326/pl_af\ p/iraq_war_us_powell_quit_1 But is he not the great General who used the UN to disarm Iraq before invading? Hmm.... I must agree with Powell, when he says about himself, " "Personally, I'm very much in sync with the president and he values my services." April 9, 2003 Rumsfeld speaks at Press Conference - by Sophia Barkat It's going on now. Rumsfeld talking about liberation of Iraq. Pictures of Iraqis jumping around in the streets. Rumsfeld expresses his happiness over the victory. Says, "Iraq may even have a free press," and laughs. Hmm....Can we have some of that in the US, also? He was asked if "More people will now attack Americans?" "Rumsfeld says Americans do not wish to control Iraqi real-estate or wealth." It seems the whole Halliburton issue went under the rug. Will Iraqis now get a say in who gets contracts to their oil fields? Or is Rumsfeld just saying what we want to hear. by Cherrie Lynn Lipsett re: Sophia's post I saw the pulling down of the statue of S. Hussein and the laughing in the streets on my TV. It seems to me the only ones there were young men. No women, no children and no older people what so ever. I far cry from the clips I have seen of France and other countries being liberated by Americans in World War II. There were women, children and old people in them. It looked to me like it was probably the trouble-making youth of Iraq only who took part in this liberation party. Those looking for excitement and trouble. Which all countries have a fair share of. by Trevor Batten Re: Cherrie's post The BBC did show shots of women -crying for the deaths of their loved ones. One old man showed reporters the alleged bloodstained remains of a child. Powell Lied again by Sophia Barkat I thought the US wasn't going to attack Syrian. Powell just made a statement last week saying the US has no plans. However, look at the admission they got out of the Iraqi Scientist: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&cid=68&ncid=68&e=3&u=/nyt/20030421/\ ts_nyt/illicit_arms_kept_till_eve_of_war__an_iraqi_scientist_is_said_to_assert If this is not Bullshitting then what is? Powell loses credibility as a politician every day. by jdcinsf@aol.com Re: Sophia's post The U.S. has no plans to invade or attack Syria. I'm not sure how an Iraqi scientist who reveals alleged information about WMD that may have been taken to Syria, has any thing to do with an invasion or war with Syria. This news and other bits was known through various intelligence means before the war began. The saber rattling (or diplomacy as its called) that the U.S. has been doing has brought Syria into a diplomatic negation with the U. S. It is seen that Syria is more than willing to work with the U.S. to find Iraq fugitives as well as WMD. All is well, just as Mr. Powel says. When the country is attacked because of a breakdown in diplomacy is when that policy is changed. So far, there is no attack on Syria on the drawing boards. by Sophia Barkat re: jdcinsf@aol.com We were discussing earlier how Powell was trying to get an amicable settlement in the UN regarding Iraq....and look where we are today. It appears to me that Powell had no intention to resolve anything in the UN. You may want to follow the link at Juryfury.com about Bush Administration Speeches. http://quietpoly.com/juryfury/debates/US-IRAQ-War/bushadministrationspeeches.htm\ We try to keep a tally of what they say and how things pan out. There might not be an immediate war on Syria but sanctions will start appearing as they always do under the guise of the UN Resolutions. They don't have much Oil, though they do have some oil exchange with Iraq, which is now no longer valid - since the US is on a contract-breaking spree regarding business deals in Iraq prior to war. by Trevor Batten Re: Sophia's post To be honest, Bush did quite clearly state that he wanted "regime change" in Iraq (although I don't remember him specifying that this was to help the Iraqi people) -and he did wish to do so without the UN and he also stated that if the diplomatic road failed (to give him permission to do what he wanted) then he would unilaterally invade Iraq. I don't believe anybody could accuse me of supporting Bush -but his intentions were quite clear -before he went to the UN. Personally, I consider it unforgivable that Blair has confused the issue (and split NATO and the EU) by bringing Bush to the UN (and claiming this was the only way) and then, at the last minute, ditching the UN in favor of Bush. Bush may be a dangerous fanatic -but Blair is a quisling who has achieved nothing positive -and done an awful lot of damage. The situation would have been a lot cleaner and clearer if Bush had been forced to go it alone. It is also dubious if Bush would have had so much domestic support -without Blair providing an international fig leaf. The misinformation put out via the media by Bush and Blair supporters and officials is disgusting in a so-called democracy. Bush should be impeached and Blair forced to resign (as a minimum). by Trevor Batten Re: post by jdcinsf@aol.com Strictly speaking, having no plans to do something does not mean that one has no intentions! by jdcinsf@aol.com Re: Trevor's post That all depends on how Syria responds to the diplomacy. Powell and Bush have not lied. by jdcinsf@aol.com This Mailing List I find it sad that this mailing list is dedicated to evolving thoughts of deception and pure criminal actions made by the USA. When you thread all these ideas backwards, all the ideas have been spoken out of the mouths of the terrorist groups leaders themselves. In other words these paranoid ideas are just extensions of the terrorists propaganda. by Sophia Barkat Re: This Mailing List When you call the truth terrorism - as Bush does, "If you are not with us you are against us - then yes, this must be a terrorist mailing list. Any other kind of thinking would be unacceptable. by Trevor Batten Re: Sophia's post I'm afraid I too find it impossible to understand how any kind of democratic discussion with the American government is possible after Bush's effective declaration of war against the rest of the world -which you have just quoted! Department of Energy press releases by Sophia Barkat Here are some Press Releases of the Dept. of Energy and what they discuss: http://www.energy.gov/HQDocs/testimony/2003/20030411.htm The link says (quoting): Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham today praised the House of Representatives for passing comprehensive energy legislation, which includes key provisions authorizing the Administration's hydrogen fuel and infrastructure initiative. Abraham released the following statement: "We are closer to energy independence day. This bill will help free us from the effects of harmful emissions, lessen our dependence on foreign oil, and authorize our innovative hydrogen initiative." (Secretary Spencer Abraham) Next link is a Press Release on Energy Supply being stable: http://www.energy.gov/HQPress/releases03/marpr/pr03061.htm (March 20th, 2003) "World Energy Supplies Are More Than Adequate To Compensate for any Disruption" Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham says." Yes. Aptly put. US Citizens should no longer be concerned about US supplies of Oil. World Supplies are within the control of the US. "The United States holds 599 million barrels of oil in reserve. Together, IEA governments hold 1.2 billion barrels of oil in reserve," Abraham says. It drops the name of the International Energy Agency, of which I have never heard off. Apparently the IEA holds oil reserves!? "The United States and its international partners anticipate that Saddam Hussein's regime might attempt acts of sabotage against oil wells. By doing so, Saddam is destroying the wealth of his own people." Ah! Finally, a reminder to Americans that Saddam was a bad man, but no mention of UN FOOD for OIL programs - the Iraqi wealth was for sale at 60cents per barrel. How much is it you pay for a gallon of oil/gas these days? "World energy supplies are more than adequate to compensate for any disruption these acts may cause. Saudi Arabia and other major energy suppliers are producing normally. At this time, we do not know the extent of the damage to Iraqi wells or how many wells are currently affected by the regime's orders. " Saudi Arabia and OPEC members (not Iraq) said they would raise supply to meet shortages from war - press releases from OPEC http://www.opec.org. "As the President has said, those responsible for acts of sabotage (oil wells) will be held to account for their crimes. Anyone who receives an order of sabotage from the Iraqi regime should not follow those orders." Oh. Okay. Oil Wells have more rights than humans. I forgot. Protect them. But bomb Iraqi civilians. Truly the US is coming up with some smart-talking officials. And to top it off, there is a link to Earth Day from the Dept. of Energy site. It appears the great protector of all Oil Wells have run out things to say for their department) http://www.earthday.gov/ where Bush Jr. reportedly says (and no, he probably doesn't know they put his name next to it): "Good stewardship of the environment is not just a personal responsibility, it is a public value."
