Who's Who in the Military Oil Man to be new US Navy Secretary by Sophia Barkat It appears that Oil and Defense go hand in hand in the Bush Administration. I don't know why an oilman would be in charge of the US Navy otherwise: Here's the link: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=7&u=/ap/20030507/ap_on_go_ ca_st_pe/pentagon_changes Apparently, Rumsfeld is the man doing the picking. This Administration is really cleaning-house it seems: http://www.sunspot.net/news/printedition/bal-te.army07may07,0,878634.story?coll=\ bal%2Dpe%2Dasection My question is are these common in the US or are they something totally new to the Military? Back home in Bangladesh, a new elected/self-appointed official means major shake-ups usually. But then again many of the Presidents in the past were Generals who after a military coup self-appointed themselves and retired anyone who could be a possible threat. US National Guard to combine Airforce and Army by Sophia Barkat Here's the link: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=564&ncid=564&e=7&u=/nm/ 20030516/ts_nm/arms_usa_guard_dc_2 Apparently the success of the War on Iraq has created an incentive to combine both Airforce and Army units in the National Guard. New programs are better implemented by this combination - Chemical and Biological Units etc. One wonders if there will be any difference in the levels of command with the new 'merger' so to speak or whether it will be just to share some resources and training facilities. |
